We tried out a new restaurant today that specialises in American-style seafood. Reading further on, you probably guess which restaurant this is. It was not outrageously selling to us, and we didn’t have a good review of it.
Promises of seafood. For those who love seafood, it’s not many places you can find pranws, crabs, mussels on constant supply. There are regulars on their menu anyway
This restaurant has a fairly simple, no-fuss feel to its deco. It’s not pretentious.
We wanted somewhere different to eat, all the better one we have not been before.
Partly because of its decoration, and the fact it usually has one or two tables occupied, gave us a sense of uncertainty of whether this place is fully operational.
The food was anti-climax. The main seafood dish lacks personality, the “wow” factor, big or small. It is certainly edible, but the manner it is presented shouts out a tired crab, a set of washed-out prawns, and some don’t-bother mussels that didn’t feel like they enjoy being there. The dish has a sauce, however, there must be better ways to drizzle the sauce to make it look like something to lift the plate from high to super-high level, rather than what looks like a little bit of extra from what could be the ends of some soup.
There must be some positive aspects. Well, there was no loud music, or music, piped out in the restaurant. The whole restaurant is well lit, and what was the wall of glass that was there for the previous restaurant has remained. The place did not have too many posters or such things to convey values to you, or to convince you that you have really missed an important merchandice or way of life. It certainly is a choice where people could sit for an extended amount of time to chat, which is what we saw.
Back to the more negative aspects. And this is worth pointing out. The lack of personality in the food is matched by the lack of engagement from the members of staff. From their point of view, they appear to have taken the approach that people don’t want to talk to them. But why run a restaurant?
