Uncertainty

We got ready. We discovered the wheels on the suitcase needed attention, they are so worn out that soon one or more might get detached from the case.

We decided to see if we could find a replacement. We know there is a shop that sells suitcase. We assumed it was still open. We rushed there, yes, it would remain open for at least another two hours.

They had a few suitcases that suited our need even though the prices were slightly beyond what we wanted to pay. Nevertheless, it was not too far from what we expected: the quality of the suitcases, and their prices.

It’s uncertain whether it would be “good value” if we bought one of the suitcases. We debated a few minutes and though we should try to see if there are other shops with suitcases for sale. Having walked around another 3 or 4 minutes, we recalled another shop where we did buy a backpack some time ago. It could well have closed for business at the time of the day. Beating heavy traffic we got there to find lights were all on, the shop was still open and available to entertain us.

Unfortunately, initially, it didn’t have matching suitcases that we found in the first shop, and also we wanted larger suitcases than those this second shop had. More debate on what to do. The sense of uncertainty had shifted. It had now been replaced by some level of urgency: the shop was going to close for business for the day, in about 3 minutes.

Another bout of uncertainty kicked us: we had decided one suitcase, but it had 3 versions of colour. In a matter of haste, one was chosen, because it was not white, nor black, nor blue. We paid, completed the custom, thanked the staff, and left.

For months, that suitcase had served us well.

PicThe uncertainty of having delayed ourselves in the proceeding could well have resulted in something very different – we might have had to struggle with the original suitcase, only for it to get damage further.
