The wrong kind of worship is when we say the worship is wrong.
Jesus found there were people abusing the worship venue for personal gain, he decided that was wrong worship. (Matthew 21:12-17)
The Samaritan woman followed traditions and to worship at one place, where “worship” is carried out at the venue and left at the venue. That was wrong worship. (John 4)
Abraham was told he had entered the worship venue unprepared, he still had his sandals on, and he did not know who God was. That was wrong worship. (Exodus 3)
These three quotations could act as good references for what not to do in worship. Worship is God-centred (Matthew), spiritual (John), and purposeful (Exodus).
Much of what we consider as “wrong worship” might be to do with “style”.
