Having to mix in different social and work environment, I often feel I need a lot of effort and attention to fit in with others. It’s not always easy to identify causes and the “unfitness” looks like.

A circle does not fit fully inside a square

A wrong remark breaks the flow.

Are my shoes sideways?

No longer right-handed.

Is feeling “not fitting in” a psychological condition, in the sense that it’s only me feeling it? Or I set out to feel that way?

Not sure, each of us is different. The psychological condition is probably “yes” but not a “harmful” question. The second question about whether I set it out that way, or whether we set it out that way to be different to other people, there is a bit of “yes” in the answer there. There is an interesting balance between being marked out as different and be treated in a negative way, than being treated in a positive way, or netural.

In as far as I find myself not fitting in, it’s quite possible that others are in a similar situation. Perhaps some or all of us are feeling the psychological pressure of the situation.
