In case you didn't know, today is first of April - April's fool

Relax, have a laugh

Don’t over do it though, but maybe also not the all-very-mundane joke.

I was tricked by friends who said somebody was looking for me. I swiftly went to look for that person, could not find him. Coming back to my mates, I was more astonished that no one laughed at me having fallen to the trick.

  • Wandering in the desert was not a joke, for 40 year.
  • Mary ran to tell the truth of fulfilment to the disciples in hiding, none of that was a joke.
  • Nicodemus looking for Jesus to endorse his own faith by head knowledge was not a joke, even when done in the dead of night.
  • Meditating for 3 days and nights and then spat out of the fish, a big one, was not a joke.
  • First Christian following disciples’ message was likely a woman, a rich one too, that cannot be a joke.
  • The mustard seeds, was not a joke it became a landmark given the size of the tree.
  • Having to say to the servants do as he says, only then to pour out new wine, was not a joke.
  • David being shot at by Saul was not a joke.

Perhaps they could be, or ought to be, read with an element of “joke”. In the sense that there is something light-hearted, or laughable, or jovial about some aspects of how each of these unfolded. The factual aspect remains as recorded for us, and the theology unchanged. But on reflection, these, and perhaps many others, have some elements of “joke” about them, not to trivialise, but that God has a way to teach us something (those in the accounts), and for readers to be able to see the “funny” aspects to reinforce the core message.
