Ready for more of Leviticus? After journeying chapters 1 through to 7, chapter 8 of Leviticus begins with a fresh tone. However, looking at verses 1-2, this is more a compressed version of the rituals explained earlier.
Here in the new chapter, perhaps following their desert dessert is the rendition of liturgy for the people of God. Not a crash course, but highlights.
Leviticus 8:1-2 suits worship leaders on refresher journeys, such as at worship training conferences with experienced worship leaders. It’s important that when when specific topics are being addressed we don’t lose the “big picture”; similarly that when we are dealing with the big picture, we have adequate attention on the small details.
The rams, the vestments have ritualistic meanings in the wider liturgy, and even wider in the theology of salvation for all. We can be easily taken up by the details and lose sight of why and basis by which we are cleansed. For the one overseeing the overall proceeding, being sensitive to the need of bull offering, that of the basket if unleavened bread, etc is prerequisite to a worship leader in directing our worship to God.
