Hymns & songs A to Z

What is disappointing is that the bass part in the piano part is crotchet notes being the harmonic bass. See MUS 004.

MUS004

Pianist will find playing the music much more of a relief than a bass line that is more complicated. This is because the right hand melody has a lot of syncopated rhythms, and plus secondary notes. You want to devote maximum attention to your hand position to allow your fingers at the right place to play there the notes are. Despite that, I do prefer music arrangement given attention to creativity in the bass. Yes, I know, with a more complicated bass line, far fewer keyboardists / pianists will be able to play, or want to play. If the bass part is written this way, there is no problem for them to play it.

Moving on, let’s move on to the chorus section, the music shown in MUS 005.

How does the music feel like? Very calm? Calmer than the verse section? Or more energetic? You can answer that yourself. Looking at the music, in fact the melodic pattern hasn’t changed much from that in the verse. MUS 006 shows this – you can do the work here by following through the rhythmic structure of the melody in the two places.

MUS 006 – the rhythmic structure of the melody in the chrosu is the same as that in the verse.

The point is, the feel of the chorus is a heightened excitement of that in the verse. The music makes it so. The excitement in the lyrics goes hand in hand with the excitement in the music. Hope!

This will continue in part 4 here.
